Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation PMA DataLab
PMA publishes high-quality data to help drive public policy related to family planning topics all over the world.
A joint project of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and Jhpiego, PMA has played a crucial role in equipping decision-makers and shaping public programs globally.
We worked with PMA to design and build a platform for publishing their data online. The system provides fast access to data collected from a broad range of indicators all over the world. Interactive visualizations provide decision makers with customizable formats that best fit their needs, with options to download the raw datasets directly.
Dynamic, Interactive Visualizations
Users can choose from available indicators to build customized data visualizations.
Multiple Ways to Visualize Data
Bar charts, line graphs, sankey diagrams, and data tables provide access to data in the format best suited to the specific needs of decision makers.
Promoting Strategic Narratives
While users can build their own visualizations by comparing indicators and choosing the desired format, PMA can bundle specific data collections to publish case studies and promote key findings.
Flexible and Maintainable
Built in Drupal, the PMA DataLab provides simple tools for updating underlying data and adding new datasets.
Accolades
In 2021, the PMA DataLab website won a Silver W3 Award for its excellent use of data visualization.
